This design was made using a traditional sand-casting technique. With this method, a pattern or exact replica of the object that will be cast is used to create a mold. The mold is made by packing sand, which contains a molasses chemical binder, around the pattern. After the mold is created, molten metal is poured into it and allowed to cool. The mold is then removed with a hammer and the pieces are hand-finished to be smooth and shiny.
